Job Summary:
Penn State's Office of University Development is seeking a Director of Development for the Office of Educational Equity. The University is in the midst of an ambitious, comprehensive, seven-year fundraising campaign. The Director of Development will be a high-profile job within the University and requires a candidate with extraordinary experience and vision. This senior Major Gifts Officer will report directly to the Associate Vice President of University Development and will have a close working relationship with the Vice Provost for Educational Equity [VPEE]. The Director of Development will be responsible for the oversight and management of these fundraising efforts and will direct the frontline fundraising staff. The successful candidate must work collaboratively and be able to provide the Office of Educational Equity with professional guidance and strong leadership to conceive and execute successful strategies for cultivating private philanthropy. The Director of Development, VPEE is specifically responsible for the following: developing goal setting and fundraising plans for the office's annual budget; managing a portfolio of major gift prospects, including a minimum of twelve (12) monthly visits with prospects and donors; identifying, cultivating, and soliciting alumni and other donors in support of the Office of Educational Equity's fundraising goals; working collaboratively with the [VPEE] development committee volunteers, and central University Development staff to ensure fundraising success; engaging Department Heads and faculty in the fundraising enterprise; managing and guiding the existing staff to work collaboratively across the Office of Educational Equity and the University to achieve maximum fundraising productivity; and recruiting, training, and managing a volunteer development committee. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree preferred) plus five years of major gift fundraising-related experience, preferably within higher education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Extensive travel is required, along with strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills. The successful candidate must possess exemplary interpersonal skills and demonstrate a genuine appreciation in working with diverse audiences. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
