Job Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Advancement and working closely with the Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine and other development and academic staff, the Director of Advancement will develop and execute a plan to bring donors to the School and the University through active use of the development process, including solicitation of major gifts. The Director will supervise the School's development professional and support staff. The Director of Advancement is responsible for securing major gifts aimed at meeting the strategic goals of the unit leadership, their programs, disciplines and the University. A primary focus for the Director of Advancement is to design and implement a comprehensive Advancement program.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Five years of experience in fund development including solicitation of major gifts and/or related work experience.
- Knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising principles.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the demonstrated ability to communicate well in writing and speaking before large groups.
- Ability to interpret and articulate the mission of Purdue University.
- Ability to interact with stakeholders from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to represent the University with tact and diplomacy at all times.
- Sound judgment, initiative, and ability to collaborate effectively.
- Excellent supervisory, relationship-building, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to continuously improve professional competency through participation of professional education opportunities.
- Good computer skills
- Ability to travel and perform weekend duties.
Preferred:
- Advanced degree.
- Experience managing/supervising professional staff.
- Experience in higher education.
- Knowledge of finance, planned giving, alumni relations, corporate relations, and advancement communications.
- Familiarity with the programs of the School of Veterinary Medicine.
Additional Information:
- Travel and weekend work is required for this position.
- A background check will be required for employment in this position.
- FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime)
- Retirement Eligibility: Fidelity Contributions Immediately.
