Smith College is accepting applications for an Assistant Director for Special Gifts. This position is responsible for building the major gift prospect pipeline through appropriate means and spearheading efforts to increase current use gifts to the college. The Assistant Director for Special Gifts also develops and executes high end current use asks through collaboration with colleagues or directly via mail, phone or in-person solicitations to increase 5-figure current use gifts; oversees management of The Sophia Smith Associates, The Smith Fund’s leadership societies of $1,875 and up; and coordinates efforts with major gifts, principal giving, planned giving, and other College staff to secure unrestricted leadership level gifts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Special Gift Fundraising: Promote consistent leadership support by securing current use revenue and developing the major gift pipeline. Craft tailored solicitations for prospects below the major gift level who are viable high end current use prospects. Through contacts with high end annual donors qualify potential major donors and increase their sights to the major gift level. Working closely with the Director of the Smith Fund design and implement strategies for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding restricted current use gifts. Plan both group and individual solicitation strategies, traveling when appropriate to visit prospects. Responsibilities in this area include travel planning, visits and follow up. Further develop the Sophia Smith Associates giving society program to maximize revenue by leveraging the societies and the associated benefits.

Class Management Fundraising: Working with the Director of the Smith Fund craft strategic plans tailored for a group of alumnae classes based on data analysis, proven tactics, and new innovations designed to maximize revenue and consistent annual donor participation. Work with assigned volunteers to achieve the specified goals for the class, for the Smith Fund, and for other Advancement initiatives. Develop and implement fund raising strategies that include solicitation plans for special gift prospects in these classes. Establish goals and priorities so that a broad constituency responds. Strengthen volunteer teams through training, management and consistent communication. In conjunction with overall Smith Fund efforts, develop communication materials for volunteers, donors and prospects that convey the goals and priorities of the college. Provide summaries and recommendations on class progress. Contribute to overall Smith Fund discussions affecting annual giving priorities
and strategies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree plus 3 to 5 years of relevant experience including fund-raising, sales, marketing or non-profit management experience and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in higher education preferred.

Skills: Experience soliciting gifts; Volunteer management; Ability and willingness to travel; Demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative team; Comfort working in a fast paced environment under the firm deadlines of an intense annual cycle; Ability to balance short-term and long-term needs.
